The P1 SuperStock USA Championship has announced its 2013 schedule that consists of five new venues for the series. SuperStock USA teams will participate in a regional format for the first time, with all five race weekends held in the state of Florida including stops in Stuart, Daytona Beach, Pahokee, Cocoa Beach and Marathon.
“With each race being held in the state of Florida in 2013, we are making a true effort to generate a regional format to powerboat racing and creating a global sports property,” commented Martin Sanborn, P1 SuperStock USA director of operations. “The Sunshine State is home to powerboat racing and we could not think of a better place to begin a regional series. We are excited for the upcoming season and hope that this is the first step to creating a true world championship.” The 2012 and 2013 series will be broadcast on Fox Sports Florida.
The 2013 season will mark the third running of the P1 SuperStock Championship and the race series has enjoyed great success both in the United States and United Kingdom in its first two years. Producing the most competitive class in all of powerboat racing, the series has been designed to be affordable, equitable and exciting for racers and fans alike.
The 2013 SuperStock USA season will kick off April 19-21 in Stuart for the Sailfish Regatta, an event sanctioned by the American Powerboat Association that will feature both the P1 SuperStock USA Series as well as the Grand Prix Hydroplane Series which features some of the fastest inboard hydroplanes in the world. Spectators can enjoy live music, kids’ activities, vendors and more throughout the three-day event. For more information on the Stuart Sailfish Regatta, click http://www.sailfishregatta.org
The series will make its next stop June 14-16 in Daytona Beach with races being held in front of The Plaza Hotel. Host of the Daytona 500, the grand spectacle of NASCAR racing, Daytona Beach is known for its racing enthusiasts. Alongside the P1 SuperStock USA Championship, the Daytona Beach event will premier the first AquaX race in the United States. AquaX is an offshore personal watercraft race series with three classes based on stock horse powers of 200, 250 and 300.
“Whether you are racing boats, cars or dirt bikes, there are not many better places in the world to host an event than Daytona Beach,” said Elijah Kingery, SuperStock USA’s only father-and-son team. “We have this event circled on our calendar and definitely want to leave Daytona Beach as a winner.”
After a two-month break in the season, racers will reconvene for their third stop in Pahokee July 19-21 on Lake Okeechobee in front of the Lake Okeechobee Resort. With a surface area of 730 square miles, Okeechobee, which means “big water” in the area’s native Seminole Indian language, is the largest lake in the Southeast.
The fourth stop for the 2013 circuit will be on the beautiful coast of Cocoa Beach August 16-18. Racers and fans will enjoy a weekend full of racing in front of the Kennedy Space Center, NASA’s launch headquarters.
The final stop in the 2013 season will be September 13-15 in Marathon where a national champion will be crowned. Marathon has traditionally been a powerboat racing venue for many years but has not hosted a race since 2009. P1 SuperStock USA administration will be hosting two boat demo days in Marathon before the start of the season on Friday, March 8 during the Marathon Seafood Festival. To book a demo ride in a P1-28SS Panther, call Azam Rangoonwala at (252)-702-2771.
“We have been excited about the 2013 season ever since the final in 2012 in Morehead City,” said Andy Biddle, winner of SuperStock USA’s 2012 National Championship. “We are looking forward to the opportunity to repeat as national champions. We know that we have a target on our back and that teams will be giving their all to cross the finish line before us.”
