Carl Turner Blog: The key to success is picking up good points in ALL races

The Typhoo navigator is looking to build on a good start in Scarborough, this weekend.

Scarborough was the first time both Kevin Hunt and I sat in the boat together. Kevin has an immense amount of knowledge as a Navigator and if I can take some of that from him I will be more than happy. We made the odd mistake but I think the more time in the boat together the better we will become. Our strategy will be the same as Scarborough - race to the conditions, take care of the boat and make sure we make each and every finish so that we can pick up points throughout the season - Scarborough has given us a great start to that! We said at the start of the season that we would be going out there to compete but at the same time, not do things that would put the boat or us at risk. The key to success is picking up good points in ALL races and that is will be our aim in Greenock.

Obviously, none of us have raced in Scotland before and therefore I think you will see a lot of the teams utilising the practice time on Friday just to get out on the water. Dino Zavaroni and Gordon Wicklow will have a little bit of an advantage as they have trained and tested there. They’ll have some local knowledge but put 9 or 10 boats alongside them and things change massively - all the training in the world cannot prepare you for a SuperStock start run!

Teams to beat? Rawbank Racing, Pertemps or Quantum. Close behind will be Pickfords. I think Inverclyde have an outside chance given their local knowledge and all the training and testing they have done in the area. They were looking fast in Scarborough until their saddle broke.
