The announcement of the P1 AquaX Euro Tour follows on from successful series in the United Kingdom, United States and Malaysia.
The series is likely to attract the biggest names from the UK series in which Phil Pope has won three titles, whilst Joe Harvey added to his second in the 2016 UK Championship with victory in the International Cup over in Florida at the back end of last year and could be a big player.
Lisa Barsby, head of P1 AquaX Global and former world champion, said “We are delighted to be launching AquaX into Europe. The series has gone from strength to strength since being launched in 2011. We now have six championships and there’s absolutely no reason why we can’t achieve the same success here as we have in the USA, UK and Malaysia.”
The three round series will kick off in Agon-Coutainville in June, before heading across the English Channel in July to Milford Haven in the UK and finishing in October at Port Balis, Barcelona in Spain.
Strong performances in the P1 AquaX Euro Pro Tour are rewarded with places at the P1 AquaX World Championships at Key West in December and the series has been sanctioned by the IJSBA - International Jetsports Boating Association.
The format for the series will follow the USA programme, where competitors are divided into two categories - Enduro or Sprint - depending on the type personal watercraft they ride and the style of riding they enjoy. The category is divided by ability into Pro or Amateur.
“What has made AquaX so popular is its simple format. It’s easy to understand and the technical rules keep the costs affordable for the riders”, explained P1’s European Championship Manager Julien Bastien. “The concept of racing with completely off-the-showroom-floor watercraft makes getting involved with this sport so easy, relatively inexpensive and in a non-intimidating manner. Anyone who has ever wondered what it is like to compete on the coast around a large buoyed course can now try it without having to do anything other than find a helmet, goggles and racing numbers.”
The racing will take place over two days and will include three individual Enduro races and four races for the Sprint category. For more information, visit p1aquax.com.
