Practice
You’ll never be the best unless you put in the wheel time. Everyone can drive a boat, but champions live out on the water. No matter how good you think you are, there is always something new to learn that can’t be done in a classroom or sat behind a desk pushing paper. Unlike track racing, powerboat racers use the ever changing surface of the sea and only a good amount of time on the water can give you an understanding of the race circuit.
Like any athlete in the competitive sporting arena, you should have a scheduled training plan built into your race season to allow you to hone your skills. Seeking extra training is also a great idea even if you’ve been racing for many years. The extra tuition may help you pick up a few valuable seconds – in a one stock series that can be the difference between first and last.
