Drivers eager to race in Plymouth
P1 Panther runners found the tight Plymouth course challenging and some reckon the racing will be very intense. Typhoo driver Andy Wilby said: “The boat feels really good now the steering has been modified which is great as the course here is quite tight and the chicane will be a hot spot when we start to lap the slower boats there.”
Crowds watching tomorrow from the Hoe Foreshore are in for a spectacular show at the first turn according to Andy: “The start run into turn one is going to be very exciting as anything can happen and when you reach the apex it’s a very tight turn.” New navigator Steve Reddish is adding some valuable experience to the boat, “It’s working really well between us as Steve sees a few details that could really help us find an edge and his offshore racing experience is going to be really useful.”
Typhoo is looking forward to going toe-to-toe in the Match Races this afternoon where it lines up in heat one against a revitalised Rough Cut Racing. “We are feeling in better shape than in Jersey”, said driver Ian Brusby.” I had a good run this morning and I’m definitely feeling more confident now about racing the Panther.”
In the P1 150 Class Azam Ali has been forced to recruit an emergency navigator after his regular co-pilot Jesus Esteve got stuck in Zurich when his flight to the UK last night was cancelled at the last minute. Sam Whittle has stepped into Aztec Racing today whilst Jesus makes his way to Plymouth to go in the boat tomorrow.
