The #11 Sunseeker Challenger SuperSport boat tests for the Tunisian Grand Prix of the Sea
#11 Sunseeker Challenger pilot Andy Wilby reckons the team has turned a corner after its nightmare start to the season. The British-based squad struggled for pace in the season-opener in San Benedetto del Tronto in Italy, then was forced to miss the next two rounds of the year after sinking in the Marseille Grand Prix in France.
After struggling for pace on their way to sixth place in the Saturday Endurance race of the Tunisian Grand Prix weekend, the Fiat Powertrain Technology-powered #11 Sunseeker Challenger – crewed by Wilby and throttleman Pete Little – was easily on the pace of the leading SuperSport boats in the opening stages of the Sunday Sprint race and finished an impressive fourth.
“The boat is a lot better, particularly the balance,” said Wilby. “We really turned a corner in testing in the UK, but we really seem to have been affected by the heat here in Tunisia. We’re able to maintain our top speed a lot better than earlier in the season, though, so it’s certainly a vast improvement over the start to the year.”
