The city of Vigo in Spain will play host to the Vigo Grand Prix of the Sea on September 12-14
Powerboat P1 directors today met with the Deputy Mayor of the City of Vigo, ahead of the forthcoming Vigo Grand Prix of the Sea on September 12-14. This is the first time a round of the Powerboat P1 world championship will take place in Spain.
Steeped in history, the city of Vigo lies in the Galician province of Pontevedra, on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. The vibrant port is famed for its strong maritime heritage and modern marina facilities, making it the perfect platform for the fifth round of the 2008 Powerboat P1 season.
“The city of Vigo has always had a love affair with the sea, and we are counting down the days to welcoming such a prestigious event,” said Santiago Dominguez, Deputy Mayor of the City of Vigo. “We hope that it will be the beginning of a successful partnership with Powerboat P1.”
Spectators will get the chance to view this adrenaline-fuelled Powerboat P1 races from Vigo’s majestic shoreline. In addition to the Evolution and SuperSport class double-header races, a colourful carnival atmosphere will take place on-shore with an exciting line-up of live music and entertainment.
“On average, the Powerboat P1 ‘circus’ generates €2million in revenue for its host regions through money invested in local businesses: from caterers and hotels; to printers and retailers,” said Robert Wicks, Commercial Director of Powerboat P1. “Moving forward, longstanding partnerships are of major importance to Powerboat P1 as it continues to expand its international programme, and we are hopeful that Spain and Vigo become permanent fixtures on our calendar.”
