The final race of the 2008 Powerboat P1 World Championship has been re-scheduled for three weeks later than originally planned in a joint decision taken by the host venues and Powerboat P1. The inaugural Bahrain Grand Prix of the Sea - taking place at two of the grandest  multi-million dollar Marina developments in the region, Durrat Marina and Marina West - will now be held on November 13-15.

The new date will allow the partners in the Kingdom to put the finishing touches to what is sure to be a spectacular setting, ensuring the purpose-built facilities are completed to the highest specifications. It also allows all parties more time to prepare for the race weekend, particularly for the P1 teams after a demanding September with Grand Prix races in Spain and Portugal.

“Rescheduling this event will afford us the time to host a grand, unprecedented spectacle, enabling us to devote more attention to hosting an innovative and unique event. This event is bound to place the Kingdom of Bahrain on the world map, strengthening its reputation as ‘the pearl of the Gulf’,” said Othman Janahi, Chief Investment Officer of Durrat Marina.

“Because of the impact that this event will have on the Kingdom, we feel that it will be beneficial to dedicate more time to preparation, giving this anticipated event the attention that it merits. The event is projected to promote Bahrain’s position as a exquisite island with so much to offer,” added Mahmood Janahi, Chief Executive Officer of Marina West.

Powerboat P1 agreed to reschedule the event as it reduces the time pressures on the 20 international teams competing in the world series, which comprises 14 races on three continents.

Jim O’Toole, Chief Executive of Powerboat P1 explained: “After careful consideration, we decided that the pros of moving the event far outweigh the cons. With our teams about to embark on back-to-back races in Europe next month, they will have more time to run any repairs and transport their boats before competing in what I’m sure will be an exciting climax to the 2008 Powerboat P1 World Championship.”
