The outfits running in this year’s Powerboat P1 championship have pooled together this weekend in Portimao, Portugal, to form a body that can represent their views and work with the series’ organisers and promoters to continue to improve the development of the series in coming years.
The main objective of the Powerboat International Teams Association (PITA) is to unite the team of all nationalities that have competed in the series, and to work with the championship’s organisers and promoters in a constructive manner to improve the series, which – in the last year – has made very important steps forward.
Many subjects for discussion are already on the table, including safety, regulations, logistics and others, and it is aimed that issues can be treated in a strait co-operation between the teams and the promoters in respect of their roles.
The foundation of PITA was welcomed by Powerboat P1 CEO Jim O’Toole. “Powerboat P1 welcomes the formation of a teams’ association,” he said. “It brings us in line with other major motorsport series, and can only contribute in a positive manner to the ongoing development of the series.
“We look forward to working together with our teams to make the Powerboat P1 world championship the pre-eminent class in world powerboating. This year has seen a great improvement in terms of our working relationship with the teams, and we are totally committed to continuing to improve that in seasons to come.”
