Paul Newman tested the #66 Sony boat with Mario Ivernetti in the run-up to the 2006 season
Everyone in Powerboat P1 was sad to hear the news of Paul Newman’s death of cancer at the age of 83 on Friday. As well as being a Hollywood icon, Newman was great car racer and a huge enthusiast of all motorsport – including powerboat racing.
Newman even paid a visit to the Powerboat P1 paddock in the run-up to the 2006 season, testing the #66 Sony boat of Mario Invernizzi and Giovanni Carpitella as part of a preview weekend in Ostia, near Rome in Italy. Even at the age of 80, Newman was as committed and interested in the sport as any of the younger pilots.
