The #26 Team Konrad SuperSport-class outfit are swapping to a Donzi hull for 2009
The #26 Team Konrad SuperSport-class outfit, which took part in the final two rounds of the 2008 Powerboat P1 season as a Wild Card entry has opted to pick a Donzi hull for its full campaign in 2009. The British-based team impressed with its rookie pace in a flat-bottomed Velocity hull during its outings in Spain and Portugal.
Team boss Daniel Cramphorn is working with the Belgian-based Bernico Boats company to develop and rig up a new Donzi 38ZRC hull. A decision has yet to be made on engines, but the team looks set to retain the in-cockpit line-up of Cramphorn as pilot, Kim Collins on throttles and Barry Keen as navigator.
Bernico Boats boss Nico Bertals is joining Team Manager Joe Jaques and Crew Chief Grant Hills to aid the team’s technical direction.
“The Velocity was a great boat,” Cramphorn said. “It proved just how competitive it could be with the second place in the PowerPole session in Vigo, straight out of the box. But we have been working closely with Donzi for some time and the relationship we have established with the factory over that period led to this being the smart move.
“This entry is a standard production boat and will show just how advanced that every Donzi that leave the factory is. It’s a big challenge for all of us, but with Nico’s enthusiasm and assistance and wealth of expertise, and Donzi’s great product, I’m sure that we should achieve the results that we hope to next season.”
