2008 Powerboat P1 season is go...!

Powerboat P1 is ready for action as the 2008 season gets started in San Benedetto, Italy
Powerboat P1 is ready for action as the 2008 season gets started in San Benedetto, Italy

If it’s Thursday and it’s sunny, then it must be San Benedetto del Tronto and the season-opening round of the 2008 Powerboat P1 championship – the Italian Grand Prix of the Sea.

You couldn’t get a better welcome for the start of a new racing campaign. The Italian gods seem to be smiling on us and giving us glorious weather for our first fixture of the year. Teams have been gradually rolling into the paddock all day, bringing with them the usual ‘first day of term’ mix of new boats, new personnel and new uniforms. Everything seems slightly unusual again, but as old friendships and old rivalries are renewed, the atmosphere gradually slips back into the familiar.

And now things are geared up for the first practice sessions on Friday morning. The big talking point will be the PowerPole session at 16:00-18:00 local time (15:00-17:00 GMT). We’ll have all the news from that session and all the build-up to the Endurance races on Saturday and the Sprint races on Sunday. It should be a great weekend, so stick with us.
