SERGIO: RESPECTED BY ALL

P1 pays its respects to Sergio
With the Italian Grand Prix of the Sea only a few days away, P1 remembers one of its most charismatic figures, Sergio Carpentieri, who sadly passed away two years ago today.
Powerboat P1 Chairman and Chief Executive Asif Rangoonwala says Sergio was a huge influence on him pushing Powerboat P1 forward as an event.
“What Sergio did for me was to give me a reason to continue whatever we were trying to do,” says Asif. “It is his passion we are trying to carry forward.”
Sabrina Turco from the SNAV OSG team was a close friend of Sergio. “Your laughter, your sense of humour, self-irony, your interrupting every single meeting with a joke, all your silly and funny stories, your being so great in everything, in friendship, humility, your good sportsmanship, your kindness, your genuineness. In one word – YOU.”
Sergio was well-respected by everyone he came across, even if they did not know him personally.
“I will remember forever that tragic day in Germany,” recalls Metamarine’s Max Ferrari. “I didn’t know Sergio very well, but as a sportsman and human being, I cannot do anything else but join all his friends in remembering this man. To me, he will be a never-ending memory together with all my greatest sporting emotions.”
The Italian Grand Prix of the Sea promises to be a highly competitive event as the teams look to add to their Championship points tallies, but one thing that will not be forgotten this weekend is Sergio Carpentieri.
