Silverline lead the way in Evolution
P1 fans could be forgiven for thinking the leading the Evolution-class standings for 2009 is something of a poisoned chalice.
But don't tell that to throttleman Drew Langdon - whose #43 Silverline team currently lead the Championship - the fourth team in four rounds of the 2009 Powerboat P1 World Championship to do so.
And Langdon believes his team are peaking at just the right time and will continue to upset the pre-season race favourites.
Although the Bullet Racing team has yet to record a race win this year, Langdon and team-mate Jan Falkowski are sitting pretty at the top of the Championship standings.
"This is our sixth year with P1 and we have finished runners-up three times," says Langdon. "We have spent a lot of time learning to be reliable throughout the entire series - and so far it is paying off. It is all very well going at 110mph from the start, but if you fail then it can be pretty disheartening.
"To us, reliability is number one. We then look to build the speed after that. The team has been looking to be faster with each race but have experienced problems with testing in previous rounds.
"There are an awful lot of combinations we are trying to make in order to allow the boat to go faster - this weekend should see an improvement."
Langdon added: "I definitely believe we can go fast enough to finish on the podium in this round. If we can squeeze another five miles per hour out of the boat, it will give us the ability to stay with the quickest boats on the water.
"If everything goes according to plan, there could well be fireworks this weekend!"
Silverline currently lead the Evolution-class standings, 28 points ahead of #10 Cigarette Smash Poker.
