More plaudits for Aaron Ciantar
Maltese powerboat king, Aaron Ciantar, secured his first piece of gold in 2010 after taking the Kunsill Malta iSport SportMalta award on Saturday.
In the presence of former Liverpool and England football legend, John Barnes, Ciantar, who will be racing in the Powerboat P1 Evolution Class this season, was rewarded for his outstanding feats in the Powerboat P1 SuperSport Class World Championship in 2009, after being crowned with Malta’s highest sporting honour.
Ciantar was selected from a pool of the Mediterranean island’s top ten athletes, which included the top five male and female nominees for their respective best sportsperson categories, with members of the Malta sportswriters association, the Malta Council for Sport, as well as association officials, registered with the KMS, and public voters via SMS, all casting their opinion.
Ciantar, who scored his second successive title in the world’s fastest-growing marine motorsport, finished second in the best sportsman category to William Chetcuti whilst the Seagull Chaudron team claimed the bronze award in their respective team category on the night, which ended up in the hands of the national women’s basketball team.
