P1 SUPERSTOCK AWARDS 2010

P1 SUPERSTOCK AWARDS 2010

Oxford's famous Randolph Hotel was the fitting setting for the inaugural P1 SuperStock Awards 2010 on Saturday evening as SuperStock teams swapped race-overalls for DJ's & Ball-Gowns , with the only race being to the bar.

Compere for the evening was P1's very own Jonathan Walls, who set the mood right from the start, as he hit the stage dressed as SuperStock's own version of the Stig. Dressed in full racesuit and helmet, Jonathan was ‘Officer of the Day' linking speeches from Robert Wicks and Asif Rangoonwala, plus the presentation of the six awards in the following categories:

Rookie team of the year

Nominations: Fuel Girls, Flying Sparks, Aztec Racing

Winner: Flying Sparks

Maurice Lacroix moment in time - Recognising the most dramatic incident or pivotal moment in the series:

Nominations: Fuel Girls Vs Rough Cut Racing, Aztec Vs Grandstand Motorsports, Aztec Racing, Team Fox Vs Eclipse.

Winner: Team Fox Vs Eclipse

The P1 SuperStock Lifetime Achievement Award

Roy Bundle, a dedicated P1 SuperStock volunteer, was presented the Lifetime Achievement trophy for his 40 years service to the sport.

SuperStock Pilots' Pilot

This award was voted for by the teams themselves for the most deserving pilot within the series. It was a tough choice as nearly all of the racers had shown perfect ability, die-hard determination and attitude throughout the season. However, there was a clear winner voted for his enthusiasm and commitment throughout the five races.

Winner: Ian Brusby, Rough Cut Racing

SuperStock 150 class champions 2010

Winners: John Wilson and Neil Scarborough, Grandstand Motorsports.

SuperStock 300 class champions 2010

Winners: Rupert Pugh and Dan Whapples, Heights of Abraham

At the end of the ceremony, a separate presentation was made by the teams to Ian and Karen Currie to wish them well as they leave the sport in their roles within scrutineering and race admin.

The ceremony concluded with John Wilson on behalf of the teams presenting Asif Rangoonwala with a signed, framed monatage of all the pilots as a thank you for all of his support in 2010.

With the awards over, the dance floor was the place to be seen dancing to a live band ‘The Fall Guy'. Our own Jonathan Walls was invited up by the band to be guest drummer as everyone took to the dance floor.
