The P1-28SS Panthers will turn up the throttles for a different style of competition during the 6th Annual Crystal Coast Grand Prix as the P1 SuperStock USA Championship hosts the inaugural “Sound of Freedom Cup” on Saturday, August 20th in Morehead City.
The annual “Sound of Freedom Cup” promises to be a special race as six different military personnel, each representing different branches of military, hop into one of the brand new Panthers and race the Bogue Sound along with a SuperStock USA driver.
Military personnel were recruited locally at different military bases throughout eastern North Carolina.
“It’s an absolute honor to have members of the military on board for this event,” said Martin Sanborn, P1 Director of North American Operations.
“The Sound of Freedom Cup will truly be a red, white and blue event that gives P1 USA an opportunity to provide some fun and excitement for military personnel that will get into one of our boats. It’s the least we can do for these heroic Americans who risk their lives daily to ensure the freedom of our Nation,” said Sanborn.
A representative from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, Fort Bragg Army Base, Cherry Point Marine Corps Base and Aviation Survival Training Center, the Hobucken Coast Guard Base, and the N.C. National Guard will all participate in the race.
Ssgt Manning, USMC Staff Sergeant of Cherry Point, said, “It is my pleasure to have been selected to participate in the upcoming event. I have never even sat in a powerboat let alone taken part in a powerboat race, so I know that I will have a good time.”
The “Sound of Freedom Cup” is scheduled for Saturday at 1:00 p.m. immediately following the opening ceremonies.
Saturday is Military Appreciation Day at the Crystal Coast Grand Prix and free admission is available with a valid military I.D. On Sunday, members of the military receive a 50% discount for entry.
The 6th Annual Crystal Coast Grand Prix is scheduled for August 19-21 in Morehead City and includes two days of competitive powerboat racing.
