As we continue our environmental theme through ‘Eco – Jersey’, this article focuses on the greenest and easiest routes to get around the scenic lsland of Jersey.
Jersey has beautiful scenic views and to fully appreciate them you can hop on a bus, hire a bike for the day, or use one of the walking guides, all of which are easily accessible.
By using public transport around Jersey you can help to promote green living, and help to reduce the impact of air pollution on the environment.
‘If you take the bus for just one 5 mile journey each week, over a year you could save 36kg of CO2 compared with driving.’
There are a total of 19 different bus routes around Jersey, enabling you to get to and from your destination with ease.
There are many benefits to using a bus instead of a car in Jersey but here are just a few:
• buses provide fast, easy access to the town centre
• our car insurance could drop if your annual mileage drops
• no need to find or pay for a parking space
• you can read, relax, or work on a bus
• no traffic jams, bad-mannered drivers or traffic wardens to upset you

Year-round bus services are operated by Connex on behalf of the States of Jersey. All buses leave town from Liberation Station, St Helier and most buses have easy access for wheelchair users.
Also Between April and October, you can take advantage of an 'Island Explorer' service. This is a 'hop on - hop off' bus service which has 4 different routes linking Jersey’s bays and attractions.

Top tip:
There are many cycling routes however you can take advantage of the 'Green Lanes', where pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders have priority over cars and motorists must slow to 15 miles an hour.
Town Routes:
Please note some sections of the town routes go against the traffic flow. This is legal and sign posted accordingly.
Cycle on Beaches:
Please do not take your bike on the beach. If you secure it on slipways please remember Jersey has very high tides.
