Ryan O’Connor: “I’ve got some severe training to do!”

O’Connor prepares his first full AquaX season

With a background in closed-course racing, including an outing at the British Championships, in 2009, Ryan O’Connor wanted to take it to the next level. Last year, he tested the waters with a single round in Hull and is now hooked.

Was it as expected?

“Not really. I knew it was going to be tough, but I didn’t realise it was going to be as tough as what it was. To be honest, I wish I’d done a bit of training beforehand.” explained O’Connor.

“I definitely need to improve on fitness and make a slight improvement on the machine. The actual handling modification will help me along the way.”

After a brief taster, O’Connor is back for more and will be at every round in the UK calendar. Learning from last year’s mistakes, he’s putting in time down the gym.

“For this season, I started training at the beginning of the year for three weeks and then, I came down with the flu virus.
I’m just getting back into the gym now and back on my feet. I’ve got some severe training to do. I’m strengthening my legs, back, arms, shoulders and also been doing cardio. I’m looking forward to the Championship!”
