Scots Gordon Wicklow and Dino Zavaroni will race the ‘Spirit of Inverclyde’ powerboat in the very first P1 Scottish Grand Prix in the Sea in June.
The team will also compete in the other four rounds of the P1 SuperStock UK Championship staged in England and Wales.
The pair are new to P1 racing but have spent many hours participating in RIB rallies and are shortly to commence race training on the Clyde in preparation for the coming season.
The P1 Scottish Grand Prix of the Sea race weekend will takes place in Greenock on June 18 & 19. It’s the first time a P1 SuperStock the event has been held in Scotland.
As part of the joint hosting arrangement with Inverclyde Council and urban regeneration company Riverside Inverclyde (ri), the Inverclyde-branded boat and racing team will compete in Greenock and at the other championship rounds across the summer.
Gordon Wicklow said: “I’ve been involved in powerboats all my life. When the opportunity came along to take part in P1 near my home, I jumped at it. We are going to give it our all this year with our families fully supporting us in the grand prix of the sea events.”
Dino Zavaroni added: “I started a marine repair and maintenance business 30 years ago which means we have a great base and back up for the team. We will have lots of training on the water in the new boat and we will be able to get a grip of the boat very quickly. Gordon and I have raced together before and have a great deal of experience on the water.”
