Sea conditions disrupt P1 UK season opener

It was a hugely disappointing day for P1 on the opening of its powerboat and jet ski season as a fierce northerly winds whipped up 10ft waves that forced almost the entire race programme to be abandoned.

A busy schedule of P1 SuperStock and AquaX racing, together with hydroflight and jet ski freestyle displays had been expected to attract thousands of spectators to Scarborough’s South Bay, but a sizeable crowd braved the chili conditions to a reduced programme of the P1 AquaX UK Sprint racing and hydroflight and jet ski displays.

The promoters hope for improved weather tomorrow, with the wind expected to die down overnight and the wave height decreasing to 6ft. If conditions improve sufficiently, P1 aim to run an amended programme of racing tomorrow with podium scheduled for 4.30pm.
