Quantum and Pertemps take charge in sunny Cardiff Bay

On a day where the sun held off the threatening rain clouds and thousands of fans lined the harbour walls, the P1 Welsh Grand Prix of the Sea at Cardiff Bay provided some thrilling entertainment for all who made the journey down.

The P1 SuperStock UK teams faced a different format to the usual offshore racing that can be found at Scarborough, Greenock, Gosport and Bournemouth with restricted space forcing the teams to race in groups of three or four across three heats.

Qualifying determined the draw for the heats and it was Quantum Racing, Pertemps Network and Rawbank who ensured they were top seeds with the three fastest times of the morning.

With two rounds of heats completed on Sunday it was Quantum and Pertemps who dominated, winning both their heats after grabbing the lead on the start run on both occasions.

South Street would be feeling extremely pleased with their performance had they not failed to take their long lap on the correct lap in heat one. They were subsequently disqualified but made amends with victory in heat two.

Elsewhere Pickfords racked up a race win in their opening heat, whilst the local team of Visit Wales were only able to finish third and fourth in their respective heats.

Tomorrow will see the teams head out for third round of heats before the top four fight it out in the Super Final and the next four race in the Plate Final. The bottom two teams from the round of heats will be eliminated.
