The Buckinghamshire duo claimed victory in the opening race of the 2015 P1 Superstock UK Championship in scorching conditions, as the Yorkshire course provided the perfect setting for a fascinating end to the race.
Having finished on the same amount of points as the Allam Marine team after four races, the pairings had to be separated and it took a ‘fastest lap’ decider to see who could complete the track fastest and take the spoils.
After an intense fight, it was the Flying Panther team of Williams and Robinson who secured victory, picking up from where they left off last season. The duo had managed a second-placed finish in the Championship in the previous campaign, and victory set them on their way as they eventually landed the title by six points to the Pertemps team.
Making its debut as a P1 venue, there was a bumper crowd to witness the thrills and spills over the course of the event, and the winners of the season opener more than laid down a marker to their rivals for the campaign.
Behind the two teams battling it out for first, nine other boats were looking to gain their first points of what would no doubt be an entertaining campaign. The husband and wife partnership of David and Kirsty Toozs-Hobson secured an impressive podium finish in third for Pickfords, but there was disappointment for the GD Environmental boat who suffered mechanical failures. Reigning Superstock champions James Norvill and Charlie Parsons-Young could only register nine points over the course of the event, but attentions would soon turn to Jacksonville the following weekend to start the defence of their US title.
