The two-day event attracted a bumper crowd of over 20,000 on the first day alone, and those in attendance during the weekend were treated to a superb display of high-octane racing with drivers battling it out for points in the second round of the UK championship.
After the season opener in Scarborough saw both Pertemps Network and Quantum Racing level on 48 points at the top of the overall standings, there was plenty hoping for another closely fought affair.
It would be the former who came out on top after the first day, with the brother and sister duo of Sam and Daisy Coleman producing a superb performance to leave them on the verge of landing the Grand Prix. Their performance would eventually see them finish in first come Sunday, claiming victory by an enormous 21-point margin.
Experience Kissimmee, competing in only their second round of the P1 Superstock Championship, secured a memorable second-place finish but there was disappointment for the Quantum team, with a setback in the third race meaning they had to settle for 54 points and a share of third.
Much to the delight of the crowd, local team Spirit of Inverclyde joined them on the same points total, closely followed home by E:Marine Racing who landed a total of 48 points.
The biggest incident of the season came in race three on Saturday as Quantum Racing collided with Rawbank Racing causing the latter to flip. Whilst there were no serious injuries, Stuart Cureton was taken to hospital and had to sit out of the remainder of the racing as well as the rounds to follow.
With Greenock providing the stunning back drop for a superb two days racing, we can only hope that 2017 can go one better. Catch all the action on Facebook!
