Throwback Thursday: Typhoo make splash in Wales with dominant victory

It was a weekend of surprises in Cardiff as the fourth round of the 2015 P1 UK Championship witnessed Team Typhoo produce a devastating display of driving to secure the maximum 100 points on offer.

The duo of John Donnelly and Kevin Hunt lifted the Welsh Grand Prix of the Sea crown in front of an exhilarated crowd under the grey skies of the Welsh capital, with their pace really pushing the limits of their rivals over the course of the weekend.

Typhoo’s speed around a notoriously tight race course was a real masterclass and the duo couldn’t hide their delight after picking up their first ever P1 SuperStock victory.

The triumph of the Typhoo team was so impressive that they managed to keep the reigning P1 SuperStock and Welsh Grand Prix champions James Norvill and Charlie Parsons-Young behind them.

Despite the weather, the crowd were treated to an impressive display from local favourites GD Environmental, who finished the bank holiday weekend with 91 points in second place.

There was another shock on the water as well with championship leaders Pertemps only managing an eighth-placed due to being disqualified in the final round of racing. After an incident with New Wave Racing, who were also disqualified after upon video evidence, they eventually dropped in the overall standings and were left facing an uphill task to claim the title.

Flying Panther, who secured 87 points in Cardiff, leapfrogged Pertemps and now led by 12 points going into the final weekend in Bournemouth. The weekend in Wales would leave a sensational shootout for the title on the south coast.
