Wales: Who came out on top last year

As the P1 Superstock UK championship prepares to visit Milford Haven for the first time this weekend, we look back at last year’s trip to Wales, where Cardiff was the venue for round four of the 2016 calendar.

It was a bank holiday filled with sunshine at Cardiff Bay as the entertainment on the sea wowed the tens of thousands in attendance. Returning for its third year, the P1 Superstock produced a famous battle between Quantum Racing and Pertemps who would be separated by just three points come the final heat.

It would be the former, crewed by Kevin Burdock and John Donnelly, who came out on top, securing a massive 97 points out of a possible 100 to ensure they took home the Welsh Grand Prix of the Sea crown. Quantum’s victory lifted them up to second in the overall championship standings, but the performance of Pertemps (94 points) gave Sam and Daisy Coleman a comfortable lead going into the final round in Bournemouth.

The two teams battled side-by-side for the majority of the weekend but they certainly benefited from the disqualification of South Street, who were punished for not taking their long lap at the correct time having already won two of the three heats they competed in.

There was an impressive performance from Rawbank who landed the final podium position for the weekend, closely followed home by E:Marine Racing in fourth.
