P1 offer condolences after Joe Sgro passing

The team at Powerboat P1 were very saddened to hear the news that former P1 racer, Joe Sgro, died yesterday following a boating accident in his 50-foot canopied Outerlimits V-bottom during the Florida Powerboat Club Key West Poker Run.

According to several reports, the 50-footer rolled near the Faro Blanco Resort and Yacht Club in Marathon, Florida. Joe was onboard with three other people and was en route to Key West for the 37th annual Key West SBI World Championship event which takes place this weekend.

Joe was the principal of Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats in Bristol, Rhode Island. Prior to buying the business, he was a long-time customer of Outerlimits and was a close friend of the late Mike Fiore, the company’s founder who tragically was also killed in a powerboating accident in August 2014.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Joe’s family. He loved coming over to Europe and racing in P1’s events and he will be sadly missed by so many in the powerboat racing community,” said P1 spokesman, Robert Wicks.
