Rius collected third in Ft Lauderdale despite breaking down with a mechanical in the last race
Nicolas Rius has been at the top of jet ski racing for decades but decided to take several years out before returning to compete in the AquaX Pro Series in Daytona Beach at the start of the year.
He’s faced several challenges this season but has a superb record when finishing with race victories in St Pete Beach and Ft Lauderdale, as well as top three finishes in the rest of his race completions.
“My 2017 comeback has had its trials,” said Rius.
“As a racer I experienced injury, suffered mechanical issues and attended to business affairs while working to keep this season afloat. Nevertheless, I dominated when I was in the water. I was a tough contender as I know I’ve always been.”
Rius is confident that no matter who lines up on the start line this weekend, he will be his toughest competition and only he stands in the way of lifting the AquaX World Championship.
“When I review the important things to focus on as race time approaches, I consider myself my toughest competition. My focus is crystal clear as I look to this next race in Key West and what it’s going to take to win. This race is a tough one and my thoughts are on starting strong and riding my race.”
The Havasu-resident also has an eye on 2018 as he looks to use this weekend to launch a serious title challenge next year.
“I like this sport. I have been in this industry a long time and the one thing that has never changed is why I race. I race for one reason and that is to win.
“My eye is on only that as I look to finish this year strong before I head into 2018 to dominate.”
