Amateur Internationals Press Conference: What they said

The Amateur Internationals will see the best amateur racers from the USA and European series descend on Key West this weekend and the top riders spoke at the press conference last night.

Cody Tetreault: “I’m not sure if I’m favourite this weekend but it took a lot to win the US amateur title. It was a team effort and I couldn’t have done it without my mentors Tommy Olswang and Daniel Steele. The US has got some of the strongest racers in the world right now and it’s going to be a strong battle between us three [Carlito Del Valle and Sophie Francis] right here.”

Carlito Del Valle: “I’m always pushing to the limits. I’ve trained hard for this all year, so I will do my best but I know this weekend is going to be a big fight – Tetreault, Francis, Chia, Gorie, Gorie is coming hard I know it, so let’s see what happens.”

Sophie Francis: “Eric [Francis} has been pushing me hard in training. We’ve been doing CrossFit seven days a week. I’ve had a little bit of bad luck this year with my skis but thanks to Yamaha and RIVA I’ve got myself a new FX for this weekend and I’m ready to show these boys what girls are made of.”

Thomas Batisse: “I’m very happy to come to America and compete at the highest level. Perhaps some of the US guys can come and race over in Europe next season. I would be delighted if I could win the Amateur International title and it would be the perfect ending to a great season.”

Christian Daly: “I’m going to go out there and do the same thing I’ve done the past couple of races. Race hard but be patient, I had a pretty serious accident in Chicago, so I’ve just got to be composed and hopefully keep Kevin [Sullivan] behind me.”

Kevin Sullivan: “There’s some pressure but I’m feeling good and I’ve been training hard. The boat is running great and I don’t see any issues. Christian [Daly] is young and he’s going to make his mistakes, it’s not his fault, and I’ve got the experience.I’m just going to keep him behind me and let him make his mistakes trying to get by me.”
