Season opener in Torquay extended to two days

The 2018 season will kick off in Torquay on April 14 on what has now become a two-day event.

Another exciting year of AquaX racing will begin on the south coast of England in Torquay, the first of 14 events on this year’s calendar that covers five countries and the first of three in this year’s UK series.
Torquay has been an intermittent fixture on the AquaX calendar having returned to the schedule in place of Scarborough midway through the 2017 season.
The event had originally been schedule for Saturday 14 April but has now been extended to cover the whole weekend with a bumper UK entry expected.
Last season Torquay played host to a dramatic finale, with miserable conditions making for some extremely choppy waves, some of the toughest seen since the series began in 2011.
The highlight of last year’s race weekend was the amateur 300 class battle between Richard Cable and David Coe, with the former coming out on top in the championship by just five points after a final race victory.
Joe Harvey clinched his first UK title despite ski issues at this venue last season as Russell Marmon took victory in the pro class, whilst Nick Brockbanks and Carl Lofthouse took the 250 and 200 titles, although the latter could only finish fourth for the round with Dave Lee taking the final round by just two points.
In the AquaX Sprint classes, Simon Gill completed the perfect season with 300 points out of a possible 300 in the Pro Ski class, whilst the Am Ski class couldn’t have been tighter, with Reanna Wilson taking the title by just one point from Dylan Green after he took victory in Torquay.
Lucy Gadsby picked up the Junior Ski title for a second year running with another perfect season, although this year the Junior class will only feature at the final round of the Euro Tour in Port Balis.
There will be stand-up racing for both 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines in 2018, whilst the UK Series will play host to a Spark / EX class for the very first time.
Entry for this year’s UK championship will be open shortly.
