The Foundation is a charity that safeguards and restores the marine and coastal environment, and throughout the 2013 season it has partnered with P1 SuperStock by sponsoring a boat to compete in the powerboat racing series on both sides of the Atlantic. “Partnerships are a key element in the Foundation’s activity, with awareness, education and a focus on young people being important ingredients” explains Sabrina Taseer, P1 Marine Foundation’s projects and development Manager. “Our boat, which is called ‘Oceans First’, has been used across the summer at each race event in England and Florida, to support promotional and educational activity, including beach clean ups and creative sessions where we work with local communities.”
At the start of the UK race season on Humberside, the Foundation worked with Hull Children’s University and Hull City Council Libraries to stage interactive activities for youngsters and then in June the SuperStock racers took part in a beach clean up in Plymouth where P1 Marine Foundation teamed up with the National Marine Aquarium. When the SuperStock Championship moved along the South Devon coast earlier this month, the Foundation partnered with Living Coasts aquarium to stage activity in Torquay.
The P1 Marine Foundation team also races in the United States, where the stunning branded boat and its crew have created huge interest in the charity amongst young people and the business community. “The sleek Panther boat, the racers and the exciting powerboat series combine to produce an immensely effective package that presents an outstanding business opportunity for any company” added Sabrina. “When you sponsor a boat and develop a distinctive and salient activation programme it’s amazing what you can achieve.”
The Foundation team finished runners-up in this season’s UK national championship and will make their final appearance of the year in the P1 SuperStock USA series in Marathon in the Florida Keys next month.
