P1 SuperStock
The Powerboat P1 SuperStock series, formerly the Honda Formula 4-Stroke Series, has achieved unprecedented success since its inception a decade ago.
The SuperStock series is recognised as the largest "one design" powerboat racing series in the world and was recently featured in Men's Health Magazine that described it as "the UK's most accessible motorsport".
The series provides dramatic yet safe and affordable racing, and has succeeded in introducing the average boating enthusiast to the thrilling world of offshore racing with standardised machinery throughout.
The 2010 championship will be fought at five venues (Penzance, Galway, Pwllheli, Southampton and Lymington) with six races held over the course of the weekend. Races last between 20 and 40 minutes and are staged as near to shore as is safe, putting the crowd in the thick of the action.
The Series
Currently the series races two classes of boats:
- The smaller 21ft ‘sports cruiser' with identical 150hp Honda engines.
- The larger 27ft race boats with identical 300hp Mercury engines. This Cougar designed boat is
also very versatile as the rear racing cowl can be removed to give access to a rear bench seat
enabling the boat to be used as a pleasure craft.
For many years the series has acted as the platform for progression within powerboat racing, ultimately to the Evolution class of the Powerboat P1 World Championship, a step made by several past SuperStock winning pilots.
The series entices teams to enter because not only is it an affordable and exciting form of motorsport, but standardised machinery means that performance is based entirely on driver-navigator skill.
