Manama, Bahrain
Getting There
Bahrain International Airport is a hub for the northern Gulf, so there is no shortage of flights in and out the country. Depending on where you’re travelling from, one alternative is travelling by sea. Many spectactors are expected to base themselves in the capital, Manama, and drive the 35-minutes from there to Durrat Al Bahrain to watch the racing.
Flying into Manama
Manama is about 15 minutes’ drive from Bahrain International Airport in Muharraq, in the north of Bahrain. More than 30 airlines fly to and from the airport, which comprises one terminal. Taxis are available from the airport and prices are often negotiable. Alternatively, at least 10 different hire car companies operate out of the airport.
Durrat Marina, the venue for the grand prix, is 54km from Bahrain International Airport and accessible by a two-lane highway from Manama. The typical journey time between Manama and Durrat Marina is 35 minutes.
Other alternatives
You can also get to Bahrain by sea. Steamers run scheduled services to Bahrain from other Gulf ports, Pakistan and India. Next year, you may also be able to fly to Qatar and drive to Bahrain from there. It won’t be the most direct route, but it will certainly be a stunning way to get there. A 45km causeway between Bahrain and Qatar is currently under construction. Due to be completed in 2010, it will be the world’s longest causeway, traversing a series of bridges and travelling across the top of dams.
