Where to Eat and Drink
As with hotels, finding a decent restaurant in Manama is never a problem. From fine dining to hole-in-the-wall local haunts, the city has something for everyone. The Bahrain capital also has a throng of bars, clubs and pubs. These range from the high-end and plush to bars typical of the West.
In style
Among Bahrain’s top restaurants, the Ritz-Carlton’s Nirvana (+973 1 758 0000) is worthwhile, not least for the décor and luxurious hotel surroundings. Expect superb traditional Indian cuisine, complemented by excellent service and a diverse wine list. Dine beneath the stars at Mezzaluna (+973 1 7472 999) in a traditional Bahraini courtyard. The food is exceptional and the intimate settings offer a relaxing ambience. The menu is predominantly inspired by Mediterranean cuisine, with a variety of international flavours also on offer.
As for bars, you won’t be disappointed by the Skylight Bar (+973 1 753 1666, www.manama.radissonsas.com). Located on the top floor of the Diplomat Radisson Hotel, it’s an impressive venue. Expect creative aperitifs with fantastic views of Manama. Level (Mishal Hotel, +973 3 9143 465) is the club of choice for distinguished locals. It features some of the region’s best DJs playing cutting-edge house music.
On a budget
The name might be somewhat unimaginative, but the Wholesale Restaurant (Budaiya Road, +973 17 595950) is an interesting experience. The premise is simple: its international menu is offered at wholesale prices and, what’s more, portions are sold by weight. Soie (6 Palace Avenue, +973 1 7533 533) is also worth checking out. It’s located in the Sheraton Bahrain Hotel & Towers and serves authentic Chinese cuisine.
If you’re a fan of live music, visit Club 1 (Metropolitan Hotel, +973 1 7296 464). It’s a Formula One-inspired pub with a lively atmosphere and attracts some of Bahrain’s leading musicians. Henry’s Café Bar (Mansouri Mansions Hotel, +973 716 999) is also worth a look. Expect a jovial pub atmosphere with an excellent selection of international beers, as well as a superb food menu.
