San Benedetto Del Tronto, Italy
Getting There
You have a number of options for getting to San Benedetto del Tronto, which is located on the east coast of Italy, 180km south of Rimini and Pesaro, and 90km north of Pescara.
Flying into Rome
Your best bet – especially if you’re starting outside Europe – is to fly into Rome and drive across the leg of Italy on the E80 and the A24, before heading north on the A14 coast road. It’s a 225km journey and should take between two and three hours, depending on traffic and the horsepower of your car. Alternatively, you can get the train from Rome to San Benedetto del Tronto, but expect a much less glamorous and slower five-hour journey, and at least one mid-trip change.
Other alternatives
If you’re starting your trip from within Europe, you may be able to get a flight to one of the smaller airports dotted around the region. The airports close to Rimini, Pescara and Ancona all have mid-sized or charter airlines flying to a number of destinations around the continent.
Rimini is about 180km (around two hours’ drive) north of San Benedetto del Tronto. You’ll need to take the E55 and then the A14 down the coast – expect spectacular views of the Adriatic coastline on the way. There are also plenty of direct trains between the two towns, but pick wisely – the quickest take 1h35m, but the slowest can take three hours.
Ancona is much closer, with a shorter 90km, hour-long journey to San Benedetto del Tronto down the A14. Again, you’ve got a good selection of direct trains between the two towns, with most journeys taking just over an hour. Pescara is located to the south of San Benedetto del Tronto. You’ll have a similar 90km, hour-long road journey, although this time you’ll be heading north up the E55. Train links between the two towns are excellent, and journeys can be as short as 30 minutes.
