San Benedetto Del Tronto, Italy
Where to Stay
San Benedetto del Tronto is a popular seaside resort, so there are plenty of hotels that face straight on to the promenade. Many have their own private stretch of beach for guests to enjoy. Visitors on a tight budget will also find small, friendly hotels and B&Bs that offer a warm welcome and family-style cuisine. The widest choice of hotels, like the best beaches, can be found south of the city centre.
In style
Leading the way for four-star establishments in San Benedetto del Tronto is the Hotel Sabbiadoro (46 Viale Guglielmo Marconi, +39 735 81911, www.hotelsabbiadoro.net). Located right on the seafront and just a short distance from the dry pits, Hotel Sabbiadoro is also very close to the town centre, so you’re ideally placed for all the pre- and post-race action. You can keep yourself entertained in the evenings in the two bars, the disco or the games room, or maybe relax in the solarium, sauna or the pool, which offers spectacular views of seafront. Expect to pay from 80 euros for a single and 100 euros for a double.
The plush Hotel Marconi (114 Via Clara Maffei, +39 735 81857, www.hotel-marconi.it) also opens directly on to the beach and is highly rated. Its location requires a longer trek to the harbour and dry pits (about four kilometres) but the luxuriously appointed rooms, restaurant, fitness centre, pool, sauna, bar, outdoor terraces and private beach provide ample compensation. Wi-fi facilities are available, as well as a mini-golf course and, for winding down after all the excitement of the racing, a massage service. The hotel has ‘superior’ rooms from 152 euros per person per day and ‘de luxe’ rooms from 172 euros.
On a budget
The Blumen Hotel (109 Via dei Mille, +39 735 659711, www.hotelblumen.com) is located just 50m from the beach and offers good value. As well as its own private beach, this three-star hotel has a bar and restaurant, among other facilities. Its air-conditioned rooms all have a balcony and satellite TV. The Blumen Hotel is situated about four kilometres from the harbour and dry pits. Single rooms start at 45 euros and double rooms 65 euros.
The Hotel Florence (5 Via Grado, +39 735 588996, www.hotelflorencemare.it) is another three-star hotel with good facilities, including Wi-fi, and it’s just a short walk from the harbour. You can even avail yourself of the hotel’s offer of free use of a bicycle. Single rooms are approximately 40 euros and doubles 80 euros.
There are also B&B establishments that offer inexpensive accommodation. Many have just a few rooms and an intimate feel, such as the charming and stylish La Torretta Bianca (60 Via Col di Tenda, +39 735 581754, www.bebtorre.com). La Torretta Bianca is situated on the way out of town and rooms are priced from 50 euros per night, but you’ll find plenty of B&B establishments in the southern outskirts of San Benedetto del Tronto for a similar outlay or less.
For the more adventurous, the most inexpensive accommodation will be a tent. Take your own and you can camp at the Seaside Camping & Residence (Via dei Mille, +39 735 659505, www.seaside.it) from 12 euros per night plus seven euros per adult. The site is about four kilometres from the harbour, and has a swimming pool and tennis courts in addition to all the usual camping facilities.
