TEAM PROFILE
Powerboat P1 outfit Metamarine Corse has joined forces with Veneta Marina Racing for 2008, bringing a unique technical combination to Powerboat P1 Evolution, as well as considerable passion. They’ve got a big incentive to do well.
The #64 GFN Gibellato crew’s TNT 46 hull has been designed and built by Metamarine Corse technical manager, pilot and Powerboat P1 character Marco Pennesi, while power comes from two equally large-as-life powerhouses – a pair of turbocharged 10.4-litre diesels from Italian engine builder Seatek, delivering 1640hp. No other team fields such a unique and potent combination.
Pennesi is once again joined by Stefano Bonanno as throttleman. The Metamarine Corse team has shown sufficient speed in previous seasons to take race wins, and, for 2008, the emphasis is likely to be on finding greater consistency as the newly strengthened team look to improve on last year’s modest championship position.
2007 RECORD
The 2007 Powerboat P1 championship was not one of the Metamarine Corse teams’ finest seasons. Racing the #64 Metamarine Corse boat under Fainplast colours, they ended the season in eighth place in the Evolution class. The squad’s best results were fourth places in the UK and Malta rounds.
