Giancarlo Cangiano (ITA)

Team owner / throttles

Giancarlo Cangiano is arguably the most passionate advocate of the Powerboat P1 series, as well as one of its most successful entrants. Giancarlo has been involved in racing since 1992, and entered Powerboat P1 in 2002. The fast-flowing charm of this charismatic Neopolitan entrepreneur belies the steely, competitive spirit that he brings to the championship, both inside and outside the boat. As team owner and a skilful pilot, he’s driven by the desire to win races and titles, as befits a 2006 Evolution class world champion. He channels his passion for success into securing the best personnel and boat for his team, and then going all out to realise its potential on race day.

Joe Sgro (USA)

Pilot

Joe Sgro has been there, done that and got the trophy to prove it. He has been a force in offshore powerboat racing since the mid-1980s and won four world titles in the Sportsman B class, earning a place in the prestigious APBA Hall of Champions in 1988. He furthered his reputation as he moved up classes and became a dominant figure in Super Vee racing, where his technical ability to hone boats helped him to find the vital extra speed that makes the difference between winning and taking part. Sgro won the 2006 OSS Vee national and world championships in the Outerlimits SV-40. He raced the SV-40 in the Powerboat P1 Evolution class in 2007, winning four races and finishing third in the championship with the #97 Lucas Oils Outerlimits squad.

Giovanni Carpitella (ITA)

Pilot

Versatile offshore racer Giovanni Carpitella raced in Powerboat P1 in the #66 Team Sony boat in 2005 and the #99 Team Kerakoll entry in 2006 before joining the OSG Racing outfit of Giancarlo Cangiano for the Italian’s Evolution class title-defence in 2007. He was picked to replace Sgro as throttleman of the #88 Kiton Outerlimits Evolution-class boat for the final two events this year.
