TEAM PROFILE
Underestimate the British-based #07 VoomVoom.com boat at your peril. The US-built Hustler 388 Slingshot hull is one of the sleeker and more technically advanced hulls in Powerboat P1, while the two 440hp Yanmar diesels provide the raw muscle needed to mix it with the front-runners in the Supersport class.
Proving their potential, team owner and pilot Vahid ‘Vee’ Ganjavian set a new world speed record for Powerboat P1 Supersport after the end of the 2007 Powerboat P1 season. At Lake Coniston, he and fellow Powerboat P1 racer Jan Falkowski (pilot with Racing Bullet for 2008) took the #07 VoomVoom.com boat to an average 85.48mph, smashing the previous record of 78mph.
Of course, raw speed is not the only strength required for success in the hunt for this year’s Powerboat P1 SuperSport title, but the VoomVoom.com team won’t be unduly worried. They know that their Yanmar-powered Hustler will be a strong challenger for top honours, because it equipped itself very well in the second half of last year and starts 2008 largely unchanged.
In addition, the #07 VoomVoom.com squad have signed former RIB world and British title holder Gareth Williams as throttleman. As well as his high-calibre professionalism on the water, Williams will bring valuable experience and knowledge to the team. They will put that to good use. VoomVoom.com are a determined, progressive operation who have their sights set not merely on podium finishes, but on the top step of the rostrum.
2007 RECORD
After a lacklustre start to the 2007 season, the #07 VoomVoom.com crew reinvigorated their campaign with a change of engines halfway through the season. From then on, they never looked back and, after winning in Belgium, ended 2007 on a high. Their fourth place in the Supersport standings was a creditable result given the difficulties early on. They were also recipients of the 2007 Most Improved Team award, voted for by the Powerboat P1 teams in recognition of their tireless work in clawing their way the front of the field.
